Zimmerman currently is leading HawkEye 360’s data science strategy, guiding a team as they apply machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to maximize value from HawkEye 360’s large-scale geospatial data sets. She previously worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where she managed a Machine Learning Solutions Lab division serving Intelligence Community and Defense Department customers. Among many projects, Zimmerman explored maritime security analytics that leveraged HawkEye 360’s RF data and underlying vessel characteristics and behavior to predict whether a given vessel was likely to engage in nefarious activity.
Before joining commercial industry, Zimmerman was an active-duty officer for the United States Air Force, where she worked on RF satellites and ground systems at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). She is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, with degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. While developing her master’s degree, Zimmerman analyzed the utility of machine learning of RF waveforms.
