Michael Maughan is the Vice President of the Resilient Space Missions (RSM) Business Unit within Viasat Government Systems. Mr. Maughan has profit and loss responsibility for the RSM portfolio of Viasat’s Government Systems business, including small satellites systems, differentiated space payloads, value added satellite and hybrid networking services, space situational awareness, and advanced sensing.
Mr. Maughan has extensive corporate, engineering, government and military leadership experience. Prior to joining Viasat, he was an Executive with General Atomics leading Advanced Programs and Strategic Development where he focused on Directed Energy, Hypersonics, Advanced Electromagnetic Systems, Space Systems, Sensors, and Undersea Systems in addition to commercial Nuclear and Oil & Gas technologies.
Mr. Maughan’s national service included overseas tours as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer and Special Agent in the US State Department. He also served as a Congressional Fellow for Senators Mark Kirk and Chris Van Hollen, National Security Fellow at the Henry L. Stimson Center think tank, and consultant to the Pentagon’s Office of Net Assessment.
Mr. Maughan earned a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Tulane University.
