Joel Thompson is the Vice President of Global Product & Service Management at Iridium Communications Inc., where he brings more than 15 years of experience in strategy consulting, research, competitive intelligence and analysis, product marketing, and business line management. In this role, he is responsible for managing all aspects of Iridium’s existing product and services offerings.
A thought leader in the industry, Mr. Thompson served as the former Chairman of the Board at Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA). Before joining Iridium, Mr. Thompson served as the Vice President of Product Management at XM Radio, where he led the team that developed XM’s retail product strategy, conceptualized and delivered new products and services, and managed device analytics and forecasting. Prior to XM, Mr. Thompson worked for Nextel Communications (then Sprint-Nextel Communications) for seven years, working in a various research, strategy, and product management roles, most recently as the Director of Product Management, Wireless Devices. He was responsible for leading product management activities for all wireless devices developed and launched by Sprint-Nextel. Prior to Nextel Communications, Mr. Thompson worked on the Value-Based Management team within Deloitte Consulting’s Telecommunications practice in Toronto, Ontario.
Mr. Thompson earned his MBA from the Western Business School (now Richard Ivey School of Business) in London, Ontario. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Operations) from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario and his Canadian Securities Course.
